Elementary school is not too early to begin exploring and considering future career paths! The following links can help students and parents explore career interests and plan for post-secondary education options:

Career One StopCareerOneStop is the flagship career, training, and job search website for the U.S. Department of Labor. The website serves job seekers, businesses, students, and career advisors with a variety of free online tools, information, and resources.


Maryland Career Development Framework-The Maryland Career Development Framework is a guide for appropriate instruction at the elementary and middle school levels to help prepare students create their academic and career plan for high school.  This vital instruction gives students a process to assess their personal characteristics and positive traits, learning styles, abilities and motivation combined with career aspirations.  Raising students’ awareness of their strengths and positive traits helps set the stage for building skill sets that are transferable as children mature into adolescence and adulthood and subsequently into the 21stCentury workplace.


My Next MoveMy Next Move is an interactive tool for job seekers and students to learn more about their career options. My Next Move has tasks, skills, salary information, and more for over 900 different careers. Users can find careers through keyword search; by browsing industries that employ different types of workers; or through the O*NET Interest Profiler, a tool that offers personalized career suggestions based on a person's interests and level of work experience.


Paws in JoblandPaws in Jobland takes elementary school students on a lively tour through the neighborhood of Jobland. Along the way, they learn how to identify personal interests and explore careers.


Virginia Career View -It's not from Maryland but our neighbor's resource is too good not to share! Virginia Career View is funded by the Virginia Department of Education directly through Virginia Tech. It offers engaging activities in career exploration for students in grades K-8.
